A heavy weight champion Laboratory equipment for tasks in teaching and research

The University of Luxembourg has been building a new site for teaching an research on the site of a former blast furnace. The Department of Engineering (DoE) is an interdisciplinary faculty working in the classic fields of civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and geophysics. The focus of the research lies in the development of technological solutions, the sustainable and economical use of resources of all kinds.

Testing equipment was procured for the test laboratory via a tendering process in order to enable static and dynamic tests within the framework of research projects. In the long term, the equipment will also be used to carry out component tests as part of official material tests or type approvals.

The equipment includes the following main components:

- Heavy-duty portal with a static nominal force of 4 MN for universal static and dynamic tests (bending test / wall test, buckling test)

- Clamping angle for horizontal tests up to 4 MN

- 2 hydrostatically mounted individual test cylinders EPZ-H 4000

- Universal testing machine UP 400 PK-2 D-H

- Central hydraulics PA 270 l/min including complete media supply

- Measurement and control technology DIGIMAXX® C1000

The contracting authority set great importance to detailed specifications, in which the requirements for the technical implementation were described very precisely.

The task of FORM+TEST Seidner&Co. GmbH was to record the defined services and submit them as an offer via the tender. The professional offer documents and combination with well-founded award talks and economic conditions led to an award in favor of FORM+TEST. Intensive internal project planning with competent engineers was started in order to be able to fully accommodate the customer's wishes. This included the structural design, FEM calculations, hydraulic design, PLC programming, electrical planning and design of the controllers with software adjustments. Due to the sum of the individual components and the complexity, precise control of the interfaces was required.

The connection of the massive test portal PP 4000 with a weight of

> 110 tons was easier again, since the tensioning field created was also supplied by FORM+TEST in the course of the construction of the test hall.

After a short execution time for such a project, the components were accepted on site by an external service provider. The high level of vertical integration with the far-reaching possibilities with regard to the assembly conditions gave the manufacturer an enormous advantage here. Shortly thereafter, the order was delivered on time in Luxembourg with 8 trucks and installed by dedicated service technicians in a short time.

The pleasant and professional nature of everyone involved in the project has greatly contributed to the flawless implementation of the project. We have already continued the trusting cooperation with additional orders.
